Noptel's products and technical know-how owe their existence to a long-term programme of research and product development focused on techniques for the measurement of distance, position, alignment and vibration.

This research has led to the design of laser range finder devices for various application areas like profile measurement, industrial scanners, traffic control, etc.

Position-sensitive laser measurement devices are already being applied to the measurement of deflections and vibration in girders, bridges, towers and other metal constructions, and to alignment measurement for railway machines.
